About the Show

The Annual Show is the highlight of our year, and the fundraiser which keeps the workshop functioning.The venue is filled to capacity with dealers, customers and onlookers. Where else can one shop for some of the best gemstones and minerals in the world offered at very reasonable prices. In addition to dealers, the show features demonstrations, displays, seminars and informal gemstone evaluations. The year 2016 will mark the Ottawa Lapsmith and Mineral Club's 50th Anniversary Gem, Mineral & Jewellery Show & Sale.

50th Annual OLMC Gem and Mineral Show

September 24th and 25th, 2016, at the Carleton University Fieldhouse, on the university campus, in Ottawa. Sat. 10 am - 6 pm, Sun. 10 am - 5 pm. Door Prizes. There are over 60 dealers and exhibitors with gemstones, minerals, fossils, jewellery, crystals, beads, equipment, carvings and so much more. Plus, the OLMC will host colourful displays, demonstrations and hands-on activities, and mineral and gem identification.

Fieldhouse Location:

Carleton University is located at 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa [ Google Map ]. If you are coming from the Bronson Avenue exit of the Queensway, or from Colonel By Drive to Bronson , head south to the intersection of Bronson Avenue, Sunnyside Avenue and University Drive, and turn right onto University Drive. If you are coming to Bronson via Hunt Club, University Drive will be on the left. From there, follow the road to the left, and take the first left turn to get to the Fieldhouse main entrance and parking lot.

At the university, there are several lots on campus, and the fee is four dollars per day on weekends (payable at nearby kiosks). There is free but limited time parking at Brewer Park across the street. There is also free and sometimes limited time parking in the neighbourhood around the university. There are also several bus routes that go to the university, and there are bike trails.

Food and Beverages:

There is a Tim Horton's kiosk (8 a.m.- p.m. on weekends) in the Alumni Centre next door. There is a food court (11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends) on the second floor of the University Centre, which is a five minute walk or less from the Fieldhouse. There are also a Subway, a Pizza Pizza and a Chicken Chicken located on campus and open on the weekend. The Bank Street business strip is a 20-minute walk away.

Earth Sciences Exhibit:

Carleton Universitys Department of Earth Sciences will host a Rock, Mineral and Fossil activity table for kids at the OLMC Gem and Mineral Show! You can find us near the Club demonstration and ID tables. You will be able to test mineral properties and learn about fossils that lived in the local area 450 million years ago. Come join us during your visit to the show.

The Department of Earth Sciences also invites you to visit our Sample Preparation laboratory (Rocklab) on Saturday from 10am to 2pm in room 1119 Herzberg Building. You can bring a rock to be cut and learn how we process rocks for scientific investigation.
