“Rock Carving Info & demo at the Meeting for February 11, 2010"
With the new Rock Carving night starting, there will be a Demonstration night on Small carvings and Cabs. A short slide show followed by a demonstration on carving cabs and rough.

All those rocks that you have just sitting around could be turned into wonderful carvings! No experience required, we will help show you how to take any ideas and apply them to your carving rough. We will also have some fine examples of small carvings and cabs.

David Clendining is a national sculptor who works in bronze, stone, wood, polymer resins and much more. He will discuss the various sorts of moulds used for his artwork
Eric Covington, a club member, has a Jade and hot-glass passion. He will discuss using hot-glass to make mounts for his jades and casting “aide memoirs” in metal and glass

“Revenge of the Rockhounds”

NEXT MEETING:
May Meeting, Thursday, May 14th, 7:30 p.m at the workshop.
John Skelton will give an illustrated talk called “Revenge of the Rockhounds”. It's about a group of teenagers who elude the British at Grand Pré in the course of the Acadian Expulsion (1755) then learn to make innovative use of rocks to defend themselves from hostile soldiers. Along the way they transform a few rocks for amusement and to protect themselves from a harsh environment.

Mary Francis is offering some of Lloyd's Lapidary Equipment and Rocks' for sale on Saturday morning, June 14th, starting at 9 a.m., at 954D Green Valley Cres. Ottawa.
Items from Lloyd's workshop:

Graves Six Wheeler - complete cabbing machine,
Four inch EDUS trim saw,
Graves Facetter - post model with dops and transfer block
Six Inch Crystalite Disks - a) 1200 grit new; b) 180 grit new; c) tin lap new;
d) 600 grit, 1200 grit and ripple disk all used but still lots of life. Various small tools.

Rocks -
Rough Labradorite and slabs from Nain, Labrador, rough amber from Colombia, blocks of BC jade, slabs of peristerite, etc., plus the opportunity to select from a variety of rocks for cutting placed outside at the back of the house.

Articles for sale.

B. C. Rocks!

At this month's meeting, Anna Grealy will give a slide presentation and talk about the Courtenay Rock and Gem Show, in B. C. Many other Vancouver Island small town rock clubs participate in the annual show, as well as vendors. Come out and see how B. C. Rocks!

Stained Glass Techniques for the Lapidary

Eric Covington will be presenting a discussion of Stained Glass Techniques for the Lapidary. This is an eye-opener of additional and interesting ways to show off more of your cabs, slabs and just plain "garden rocks". Eric and Louise find that stained glass is a medium that allows them to share in building these frameworks to show off rocks.
