The Ottawa Lapsmith and Mineral Club
Some of the collection in the OLMC Workshop

Regular Meetings:

  • Date: Second Thursday of each month, except July and August.
  • Time: 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM
  • Location: 217 Bell St. North, Ottawa

Meetings are held in our workshop. We welcome everyone with an interest in mineralogy, jewelery or gemstones.
(Executive meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month and are exclusive to executive members.)

Stone Carving

This group meets on the first and third Monday of each month from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Come join the fun and learn from experienced stone carvers. From soapstone to hard gem carving, your imagination is the only limit. Typical project sizes are smaller scale and members are asked to be responsible for their own clean up.

Silversmith and Faceting Groups

These groups Tuesdays from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the workshop. Bring along your projects and enjoy good company while you work. Anyone with a faceting machine is welcome to come join the fun. At the present time, there is one club machine available.

General Days

Typically Wednesday nights, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., are for general work such as slabbing, cabochon making, stone carving, flat lapping and faceting. This is a great time to see the variety of stones that people have.

Club members 14 years old or older can use machines. All new members must take the club course on cabochon making and safety from one of two official instructors, or an equivalent course of study.

Club machine usage is on a first come, first serve basis. Call the club at 613-237-7625 and listen to the recorded message for the announcement of opening hours.
